MAN MADE UPRIGHT

A sequence of actions regularly followed becomes a routine.  To display opposition to one in authority would be considered rebellion.  The powerful emotion of anger generates strong feelings of annoyance, displeasure, or hostility.  We can have more than what is sufficient, exceedingly abundant, or superabundance.  Self-satisfaction, especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers is a form of complacency that increases the probability of injury.  This occurs when our eyes or mind is not focused on the task at hand.

It takes a brave soul to walk the human path of righteousness, equipped with a fearless open heart.  Proverbs 18:21 instruct us regarding the power of life and death is controlled by the tongue.  The tongue forms words with power to speak life and death.  Being unique to man, the power of speech provides an instrument for joining body and soul.  Through speech we can build others up, or tear them down.

A superior version of man’s intellect is demonstrated when he listens twice as much than he speaks.  For this reveals to others a mastery of self, a God given tongue of the learned.  For God has made man upright with ability to workout his own salvation.  The gospel of Jesus Christ is powerful.  When man is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.

God wants to take the heavy load from our lives and replace it with His peace and rest that we may be well with still waters.  God gives us the ability to recognize, understand, control, and make the most out of our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self.  The mastery of self is gained through awareness, understanding, and control over our thoughts, emotions, and actions.  We gain an understanding of the Savior and what He meant by a single and an evil eye.  This represents a state of mind.  The eye sometimes becomes disorderly as to discover objects double, and in a manner so unclear or misleading, as to deceive the person who possesses it.  A single eye, then, is meant, an eye in its perfect state, seeing objects as they truly are.  With excellence as to give the mind correct information and the highest and ultimate single-mindedness.  This state of mind implies: Supreme love to God.  With a single focus on God, the end must be supremely to honor, please, and glorify Him.  Christ intended to be understood, by a single eye, to mean a state of entire consecration to God.  The eye is not right, unless the soul is completely devoted to the love and service of God.  Man cannot serve God and Mammon, either he will hate the one, and love the other.  An evil eye is that which has more than one object before it, or sees objects through a selfish medium, with a legal intention to serve God, but an ultimate intention to serve self.  It is evil to allow self-interest to subordinate our intention to serve God.

A singleness of eye will ensure knowledge of truth and duty.  “If thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.”

Luke 11:34

34 “The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.”

Isaiah 50:4

4 “The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.”

Proverbs 18:21

21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Philippians 2:12

12 “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”

Ecclesiastes 7:29

29 “Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.”

Isaiah 57:19

19 “I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the Lord; and I will heal him.”
