What does it mean to say, “every tongue that shall rise?” A few of the definitions of tongue:
“The fleshy muscular organ in the mouth”
“Used for tasting, licking, swallowing, and (in humans) articulate speech”
“Equivalent organ in other animals, (snakes) used to catch scent, (chameleons) for catching food”
“Tongue of hoofed mammals eaten as food”
“A reference to a person’s style or manner of speaking”
The Holy Bible speaks in Isaiah 54:17 about tongues that shall rise. The Bible is truth, so there is a possibility that muscular organs of the mouth can and might rise against you. In that rise, you might be licked, swallowed, sniffed out, or eaten as food. To the affirmative, after the rise of tongues and their subsequent condemnation, we could take on a certain style or manner of speaking. In this same Bible verse we are instructed, “no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper.” It goes on to say that tongues that do “rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.”
The Bible gives each reader their own interpretation based on their need. This article writer interprets this Bible passage to say: Although formed, weapons will not prosper. The tongues that rise in judgment, we have the power to condemn. The condemning power is our heritage as servants and we are considered righteous because of our God, and are told this by our Lord, and this we believe through faith.
The risen tongues of judgment are hereby condemned by the power inherited by me, and I am considered righteous because I serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Lamentations 4:4 speaks of the tongue of a sucking child that clings to the roof of his mouth while sucking to relieve his thirst. It goes on to say: “the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them”. We can reach an understanding from this passage that we are but sucking children who quench our thirst from drinking from the breast milk of Royalty. When we drink from the Word of God, we are replenished and do not thirst, though man will not break us off a piece of bread. Finally, and as a further matter besides, when our tongues are busy sucking on the milk that feeds us, it is stuck to the roof of our mouths and cannot rise in judgment of anyone. Because once we stop sucking, thirst may enter back into our lives. Amen
