What do you want to be remembered for generations from now?
Words have a lasting impact expression is powerful.
Technology today records every interaction—phone calls, texts, tweets, posts—leaving behind a permanent digital footprint. The next expression we make could be our last. What will it say about us?
Our expressions, whether spoken, written, or artistic, have the potential to impact future generations. As Christians, we are called to be discerning with our words and actions, ensuring that our legacy reflects the values of our faith. The fleeting nature of today’s digital age makes it all the more important to choose our words wisely. Technology preserves every communication. How can we ensure that the record we leave behind is one that honors God?
Our expressions—public and private—serve as a reflection of who we are and what we represent. Jesus teaches us “out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34). Our words are a mirror of our inner life and faith. Faith must be expressed both in words and actions, as shown in Scripture: “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead” (James 2:17).
True Christian expression transcends mere words; it’s how we live our faith in daily interactions. Sermons, literature, and art can convey powerful messages, but they must align with Christ’s love and truth. The power of parables and metaphors in Scripture serves as an example of how ideas can be shared through creative expression.
The Role of Various Forms of Expression:
Expression is the act of conveying thoughts, feelings, and beliefs to others through speech, writing, art, and other mediums. Christianity has long embraced diverse forms of expression—sermons, hymns, sacred texts, visual art—to communicate Divine truth. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to use their creativity to glorify God and communicate HIS message to the world. The purpose of expression should be to build up, not tear down.
(Proverbs 16:24) reminds us “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Our words, whether shared in public sermons, personal conversations, or social media, should aim to uplift, encourage, and bring others closer to Christ. In all forms of expression, we are called to be ambassadors of God’s love, kindness, and truth.
We should aim to leave behind a legacy that points others to Christ—a record that speaks of love, humility, faithfulness, and truth. A Christian legacy is not measured by fame or wealth, but by the depth of our faith and how we have used our expressions to honor God. As future generations look back on our lives, may they see the beauty of Christ reflected in everything we say and do. Every expression—whether in speech, art, or action—has the potential to shape not only our legacy but also the hearts and minds of others.
Let us be intentional in using our words and actions to reflect Christ’s love, truth, and grace, so that future generations will remember us for the right reasons. May our lives, filled with faithful expression, be a testimony that points others to the eternal glory of God.
