“Still Thankful in the Shadow”

Let us be still for a moment, not silent, but still. Still enough to recognize the fingerprints of God on the moments we did not understand. Yes, we should be continually thankful. Not only for the help that came in broad daylight, bold and clear as a trumpet’s sound. But also for the silent ones. The help that arrived disguised as delay. The blessing hidden in the failure. The closed door that saved our lives. Heaven sends aid in many forms. Sometimes it’s people, A friend who appears in the hour of despair. A stranger who speaks life into our crumbling faith. A mentor, a child, a prayer warrior. And sometimes it’s the action we dreaded. Or the inaction we resented. That “no” that protected. That “not yet” that prepared. Even power moves, The chessboard of life where God let pieces fall. Some kings were removed. Some queens held back. And in all of it, the KING of Kings never left HIS throne. We give thanks for the friendships formed in foxholes, where laughter met lament. Where the enemy was near, but love was nearer still. You see, our gratitude should not be seasonal. It should not wait for clarity, or comfort. Because faith gives thanks in the dark, while hope waits for morning. So today, whether you’re at the mountaintop or still climbing, bruised and breathless, let us lift up a grateful heart. For the seen. For the unseen. For the battles won, and the ones we’re still surviving. Because God was there. And God is here. Still moving. Still good. Still worthy of our thanks. Amen
