DEPTH

This work alludes to the spiritual depth we access through God’s truth. “Spend time daily in God’s Word; it’s a wise investment of time. The more of HIS Word gets inside us, the deeper our understanding.” “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) The Bible isn’t static or outdated, it’s alive. It discerns, challenges, and reshapes us. Spending more time in it allows it to work in our hearts deeply, cutting away falsehood and instilling truth.

Understanding Comes From Meditation on the Word:

“I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.” (Psalm 119:99) David attributes his understanding not to his intellect or education, but to his constant meditation on God’s Word. This reinforces the idea that daily time in Scripture yields wisdom beyond what the world offers.

God’s Word Renews the Mind:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2) Time in God’s Word is how our minds are renewed. That renewal sharpens our discernment, our ability to know what is true, good, and God’s will for our lives. This deepens our spiritual understanding in practical ways.

Scripture Teaches, Corrects, and Equips:

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16–17) God’s Word forms the foundation for maturity. The more we engage with it, the more we grow in knowledge and are equipped for life.

Jesus Emphasized Abiding in HIS Word:

“If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31–32) Jesus made it clear: abiding in HIS Word, that means staying in it, continuing in it, is a mark of true discipleship. And through this practice, truth is revealed, and freedom comes.

Why Time in God’s Word Deepens Understanding:

Because God’s Word is spiritual truth, it requires spiritual engagement. The Holy Spirit illuminates the Scriptures as we meditate on them (John 14:26), (1 Corinthians 2:10–14). The more we give the Spirit access through time in the Word, the more our understanding deepens, not just intellectually, but spiritually. It’s like planting seeds. The more time we invest, the more fruit grows. We begin to see life, ourselves, others, and God through the lens of truth, not emotion or culture. That’s a depth of understanding no other source can offer. So yes, the more of God’s Word gets inside us, the deeper our understanding, and this is firmly grounded in Scripture. It’s not about checking a religious box. It’s about transformation, wisdom, and walking closely with God in a world that pulls us in every other direction. Spending time in God’s Word isn’t a duty. It’s a doorway to knowing HIM more. Amen
