Children born of light possess qualities to sense deception. Not just dishonesty in other people, but also dangers that lurk in darkness. It is similar to a lamp of instinctive discernment that lights our path in the physical and spiritual realm. A light so powerful that it has the ability to expose even trusted friends or family members that betray us in secret.
To yearn for companionship or to have a nature that seeks approval makes a discerning power more of a burden than strength. For example, seeking the approval of a companion or friend is more comfortable than confronting deception or betrayal. The avoidance of social isolation is a consideration in deciding whether or not to confront a deceptive observation. It is compounded more when the person being deceptive is in a position of power and authority. Social isolation is a conceivable likelihood when orchestrated by one in authority over the church, family, or political party. Therefore, one is more likely to ignore, endure, or be unwilling to confront deception.
To speak truth to power that operates through lies is like shining light on what was intended to remain in darkness. Habitual liars create tension in relationships not presenters of truth. If confronting lies causes the breakdown of a relationship remember that there is a lonely road towards the top. The further up we travel, thinner the air, and narrower is the pathway. The only relationship that really matters is the one that we develop with God. Therefore, it is better to walk alone with God in truth and light, than to rub shoulders with liars in darkness.
Any relationship worth having is based on honesty and transparency. It is not confronting lies that ruin relationships, it is pictures painted with lies that chip away trust one piece at a time. When trust is gone, so is the lamp of truth that lights the path.
To shine truth on darkness is like taking a liar out of their area of expertise; becoming more awkward and uncertain in matters of fact. God is the rock of truth, the truth that we stand on to ensure favorable outcome. We promise to God, as an offering of loyalty, to praise and honor Him for the rest of our days.
