“Leaders of nations, thinkers of law, keepers of peace, hear this ancient whisper rising from the deep.”
There once was a man, Named Yonah, Hebrew for dove, Sent not with sword, but with a word To Nineveh, a city soaked in sin, A capital of cruelty, An empire of Israel’s enemies. But Yonah fled. A prophet—fleeing the voice of the One who made the seas. He booked a ship to Tarshish, As if distance could drown duty. Then came the storm. Not of politics, nor armies, But wind and wave, The wrath of heaven chasing a runaway soul. They cast him overboard. A scapegoat to save the innocent. And a great fish, not myth, but mercy, Swallowed him whole. Three days. Three nights. In the depths of the deep. Then a prayer, raw, repentant, real. And the sea gave him up. He went. To Nineveh. And preached not wrath but repentance. And the enemy, repented. Sackcloth on their kings. Tears in their streets. But Jonah grew angry. Not at sin, but at mercy. Because God’s compassion Offended his nationalism. And the book ends not with judgment, But a plant, a worm, and a question: “Should I not care for that great city?” O leaders of nations, This is more than history. It is typology. A pattern pointing forward. For as Jonah was in the belly three days, So the SON of Man, Christ, the greater Jonah, Lay in the tomb. Not for HIS sin, But for ours. Death. Burial. Resurrection. All foreshadowed in the belly of the beast. So now, the Sign of Jonah Echoes across empires: “Repent. For mercy is near.” Let not pride keep you from obedience. Let not power blind you to compassion. Let not your titles silence the voice that calls from heaven. Because the same God Who rules seas and storms Also watches over cities, Even those you think unworthy. Jonah is a mirror. Jesus is the fulfillment. You are the steward. And the time is now. “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” (Matthew 11:15). Amen
