Under God’s wings take refuge and trust that no evil can reach you there, (Ruth 2:12). Being under the wings of God offers us protection, care, and HIS presence, a Divine shelter of nurturing.
It involves us making a conscious decision to seek refuge in God’s promises and overruling power, rather than relying on one’s own strength. A daily act of trust that brings us peace in a perfect sanctuary. HE covers us with HIS feathers, and under HIS wings you will find shelter; HIS faithfulness will be our rampart, shield, and armor (Psalm 91:4). From the days of the wilderness wandering, the people of God have taken refuge under HIS wings.
To come under HIS wings is not a physical act but a deeply spiritual experience. It involves dwelling in the secret place of the Most High and continually staying in the hiding place of HIS presence. This dwelling place provides a special promise and assurance of continuous unwavering and overshadowing protection.
HE never leaves or forsakes those who seek refuge under HIS wings, even during threatening times. HE is a constant source of joy and strength for believers, as they are restored and made strong under HIS care.
The eagle used to describe the strength and renewal that come from being under God’s wings; this imagery is rich with meaning, it refers to a mother bird taking her vulnerable hatchlings under her wings. Believers are compared to young birds that are weak and unable to defend themselves. God offers HIS powerful presence as comfort, defense, shelter, to train and guide. This symbolizes spiritual rebirth for overcoming life’s challenges under HIS protection and love, rising above all temptations.
