THE GOOD NEWS

The Greek translation of The Good News is Euangelion. This news of salvation liberates us from sin, brokenness, and separation from God. Many have preached the gospel as the good news, however, Jesus also preached. The gospel is good news and the principal element of change. God reveals this good news through the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The correct understanding of the gospel and its prevailing inference is essential in our spiritual growth. Jesus preached the Kingdom of God. Although the Kingdom of God is mentioned 116 times in scripture, it is not the gospel the church preaches today. The church preaches: born again, mentioned only 3 times, the cross, holiness, prosperity and such. Although these are important materials needed to be conveyed to the church, it is not the gospel that Jesus preached to the masses. He proclaimed the good news of the soon coming Kingdom of God.

Unfortunately, many of the teachings of scripture have been distorted. Some argue that the early Roman Catholic Church decreed that Roman Christianity would deviate from God’s Word when their councils saw fit. The veiling of certain truths was deliberate, while others have been allowed to wane from recollection or overshadowed by importance being placed on other doctrines.

True followers of Christ are to preach the good news of the kingdom by sharing and explaining that God’s Kingdom is the future world government that will rule in righteousness over the earth. The core message of Jesus was the Kingdom of God. Jesus made it clear that the Kingdom of God is to be the main focus in the lives of His followers. In fact, His gospel message really underscored the Kingdom of God coming to this earth. This was the central message in the heart of His most famous sermon, the Sermon on the Mount. He said “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” making this a priority for His followers.

Our weapon in spiritual warfare is the good news of the gospel, which is the power of God unto salvation. Through Jesus Christ, we have more power than every demon in hell put together. We must first seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and He will add everything we need unto us.

Proverbs 25:25

25 “As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.”

Matthew 4:24

24 “And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.”

Matthew 5:1-15

5 “And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.”

Matthew 6:33

33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
